Job Description
Explore the best Salt Lake Valley has to offer with a dozen
exceptional youth aged 13-15 as they serve the community, engage in exciting
recreational activities and foster friendships, resilience, confidence, and an
awareness of their ability to impact
their world. Be a mentor as you work side-by-side with youth to escape
to new adventures, try new things, and embrace new challenges. The youth
program leader will work with other program staff and youth to plan and
implement meaningful and engaging opportunities to explore the great outdoors,
discover museums, be civically involved, and enjoy a wide variety group
recreational activities. They will be responsible for helping to facilitate a
constructivist learning environment that allows youth to create meaning out of
their experience through reflection and demonstration. Additionally, the youth
program leader will be responsible for proper supervision of and interaction
with youth, practice effective group management, encourage participation,
develop meaningful relationships, serve as a positive role model, and - most of all - have fun!
Neighborhood House’s teen program (SOAR) will run for ten
weeks, Monday June 12, 2023 and concludes on Thursday, August 17, 2023. This includes 3 overnight excursions: a
get-to-know-the-group campout, a humanitarian service trip and a wrap-up-summer
group campout. The youth program leader must be able to work all three
excursions. The youth program leader will also participate in youth selection
interviews in April.
Duties And Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be:
- A person who is self-motivated for success
- Driven toward excellence
- Very responsible and highly dependable
- Knowledgeable (or willing to learn) about experiential education frameworks, youth voice, and growth mindset
- Must have/or obtain: CPR/First Aid Certification
- Must be able to attend multi-day excursions
- Be at least 18 years of age and ability to successfully pass a background check
- Higher Education in Social Work, Psychology, Recreation, or Education Fields a plus
- Valid Utah Driver’s License and comfortable driving a 15 passenger van
- Fluent in English. Bilingual Spanish is a plus
